I’ve written this poem to say ‘Thank you’ to all the Nurses, Doctors and other Staff Members of Ward 4D at the Princess Alexander Hospital who nursed, cared for and helped Jan recover from her debilitating illness.
There was a ‘Lady With A Lamp’,
Her Legacies Prevail,
She’s the founder of Modern Nursing,
She was Florence Nightingale.
She was of a Predominant Family
And her parents would object,
But her Heart was for the lowly and,
Their dignity, respect.
Even with her wealth and fortune,
She had a Heart of Gold,
She’d help the poor of her local town,
Where her Legacy’d unfold.
She was in her teenage years,
Came the Calling of her Heart,
GOD led her in this unseen journey,
Along this Nursing Path.
A Pioneer in her field,
She implemented washing hands,
A dramatic hygiene turn around,
Saving lives across the lands.
Whilst her Heart was pure and tender,
What horrors her eyes saw,
Attending the sick and dying during,
The Crimean War.
You can do those years in Uni.,
Where you’ll strive and seek and yearn,
But it’s when you’re with your patients,
That is when you’ll really learn.
Both Jan and I would Love to Thank,
All the Staff of Ward 4 D,
You have Hearts of Compassion,
And you Cared so Tenderly.
But to all the Nurses of this Ward,
You have such Love to share,
Cause you have this Heart for Nursing,
And we’ve seen your Tender Care.
This Heart you have, you’re really Blessed,
With so much Care and Love,
The Strength you need to cope each day,
Is from GODS HEART ABOVE.
INSPIRED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT,
Written by Hartley Window.
