In My 70’s

‘One Thing I Do’

‘Forgetting what is behind’. I will no longer allow my past failures and insecurities to immobilise me. Nor allow umpteen fears to overwhelm. Fears like having wasted so much time on things that did not work out. Fear of not being as ‘savvy’ in blogging as others out there in the world!!

Nor will I count the possible number of years I have left with the fear of ‘not having enough time’ hovering over everything that I put my hand to do. I will not fear possible age-related health problems, for He who created me will also carry me in my old age.

Instead I will be thankful for the countless ways God enabled me to cope in the past, to provide, love and nurture my family as well as my personal ambitions. I will be thankful for the years of experience and challenges that built resilience and strength and the wherewithal in me to be this person, in this present.

I will be thankful for the way my children are progressing in their journey, needing us less and less in the nitty gritty of their daily life, but still desiring to relate, communicate, care and love us as we are in our old age.

I will rejoice in the love, faithfulness, friendship and desire for my company from all those who are in my life, today. Grateful for those who have ‘stayed’ through thick and thin and in all our differences. Grateful for all that I am able to do, acknowledging my limitations and celebrating each day’s accomplishment – I will value the blessings I enjoy every day.

In my 70’s, I will ‘press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 3:14) and not give up building upon my creative desires.

In my 70’s, I will continue to nurture my garden, plant roses, prune overgrown bushes, harvest fruit and vegetables and pick some fauna and flowers for my indoor vases. Go on hot air balloon rides, with other ageing family members. And I will spend time in prayer and in being an encourager for those God reminds me of.

In my 70’s, ‘this one thing I (will) do’ – stay in the present.
